4th of July Events for Seniors in Plano, TX

Did you know that the 4th of July has been celebrated for almost 250 years? Americans fought hard for our freedom back in 1776, and it's our duty to honor and celebrate them every year.

Being proud to be an American means putting on the best events for Independence Day, and Plano, TX, is no exception. In fact, we've probably got the best schedule out of the entire state!

Are you now wondering what 4th of July events are available? Then read on. We've put together a list of holiday fun for retirees that's ideal for people from all walks of life.

Plano's All-American 4th

Plano's All-American 4th is the main event if you're searching for community celebrations on July 4th. It runs from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm at Red Tail Pavilion.

This free and family-friendly celebration has numerous vendors on-site so you can grab a tasty meal and drinks. There are also games available that you can play with loved ones.

The Rotary Clubs of Plano will begin their parade at 7:30 pm, so make sure to grab a seat before it starts. You're welcome to bring blankets and lawn chairs to make yourself comfortable.

The grand finale is a magical fireworks show over Oak Point Park at 9:30 pm. What's cool is that they'll be simulcast live on 97.5 KLAK radio.

Make sure to practice good hearing loss prevention while viewing the fireworks.

Grandscape Fireworks

Not everyone enjoys being jammed into crowds, and that's okay. Not only is it overwhelming, but it can also be challenging to navigate.

For a festive atmosphere that's less crowded and more walkable, try the Grandscape Fireworks. In recent years, it's been held on the 3rd of July, which helps spread out the Independence Day weekend attendees and makes it one of the top safe July events for elderly people.

Grandscape is just west of Plano, so it's easy to get to. You can expect stunning fireworks over a lakeside setting!

Before the show, you can spend your time in the gorgeous walking plaza that has shops and restaurants. You can grab dinner or ice cream beforehand, and then catch the fireworks from many vantage points.

Attend Liberty By the Lake

The Colony is near Plano, so you won't have to go far. The city's Liberty By the Lake event is packed with activities, making it ideal for active seniors.

For example, there's the Liberty 5K and Fun Run starting at 7:30 am and 7:50 am, respectively. Plus, there's the parade at 10:00 am.

But you don't have to get up super-early to participate in the festivities. The rest of the program starts at 6:00 pm and ends at 10:00 pm, giving you plenty of time to travel to The Colony.

If you're after a spectacular fireworks show, then be there at 9:30 pm sharp. Otherwise, you can spend your time at the festival going at your own pace.

Independence Day at The Texas Pool

The Texas Pool is hosting their own small celebration this year from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm. It offers a senior-friendly Independence Day in Plano since there are lifeguards on duty while you take a dip. You can also participate in gentle pool games if you wish.

While you're out of the pool, you can enjoy bites from the snack bar or hearty meals from the BBQ grills. Or you can bring your own cooler with food and non-alcoholic drinks.

Admission is $10 per person, but if you're already a member, you can get in for free.

Red, White, and Brews at Legacy Hall

Legacy Hall is putting on Red, White, and Brews from 12:00 pm to 6:00 pm, although you can already enter at 10:00 am.

The star attraction is the grill in the Lexus Box Garden. You can order:

  • Hot dogs
  • Chicken sandwiches
  • Corn dogs
  • Corn on the cob
  • Potato salad

In addition, there are over 20 eateries and bars to choose from inside, so you'll have plenty of choices for food and drinks.

To cool down, you can get fresh watermelon slices or boozy popsicles. If you're bringing your grandkids, then do note that the first 125 kids get free ice cream!

There are yard games all day long, and the little ones can get their face painted from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

Gallery Exhibit and Art Walk

If you're after a midday cultural outing, then consider going on a gallery exhibit and art walk put on by the Plano Art Association. It's a great way to stay active while seeing what local talent is available.

First of all, there's the "Getting to Know You" exhibit at the Plano Art Association Gallery from 11:00 am to 8:00 pm. Pieces will be on sale, so you can bring home any that catch your eye.

As you stroll through the Downtown Arts District, you'll benefit from quiet and reflective environments, with no noise, crowds, or physical exertion. Plus, you can always take a break by having lunch or an early dinner at a nearby cafe. You can think about what you've seen, and it may even inspire you to do patriotic crafts for older adults.

Independence Day Parade at Collin College

This event is ideal if you want to see small floats and the community groups of Plano. Collin College is holding a wonderful parade that starts at 7:30 pm on the Spring Creek Parkway campus.

It's excellent for those who have mobility issues since it's brief and close to parking, meaning there's minimal walking. You can even watch the parade from your car or a nearby bench.

Participate in These 4th of July Events

We've now given you a well-rounded list of 4th of July events in Plano. While most involve fireworks and parades, there are also festivities with grilling, drinks, swimming, and more.

So get together with your loved ones and decide which things you'd like to do. Regardless, you're sure to have an amazing time, and you'll create tons of new memories!
